various nothings

Today is my housemate Naldo's birthday. Yebah. Happy birthday naldz! I saw a cake in our fridge kanina... yey! Parteeeeh!!!

***

Kanina we had our SGD on bleeding. I studied for Legal Med last night and crammed for the SGD topics kaninang 6am. Rationale: there are 10 of us in the SGD and only one of me during the exam. Hehe. :) Buti na lng madali lang and carry lang yung discussion kanina dahil Dengue naman yung case and we've been over it n times na. At least natapos ko basahin ung Legal Med coverage kagabi and kanina! yey! memorization na lng...

***

Tomorrow is Legal Medicine exam day. Memorization nanaman ito tonight. Gudlak. Memory gap nanaman bukas. Gudlak talaga. How will you know if the gunshot wound is post-mortem or ante-mortem? What are the elements of rape? How will you know that death by asphyxia was homicidal or suicidal or accidental? How will you differentiate drowning in salt water from drowning in fresh water? Hehe. 5 seasons to back me up here. yey!

***

Tomorrow is also Preceptorial day aka Grilling at the Hospital and ang specialty ng mga consultants ay Inihaw na 3rd year student. Isa pang gudlak. Hehe. :)

***

We also have our house meeting tomorrow. :D part ng IVhome life.

Happy Me(al)!

I forgot that Tarits told me to make my own 'Best Things in Life are Free' list. So wala nang pasubali, eto na ang mga bagay that make me sing and dance with joy na negligible ang price tags:

1. Definitely. Anything esvee makes me giddy. Pictures, snail mail, text message, t-shirt, memories, SVHome, prayer sa Thai pav, tythugs, dates sa gilid ng Main Lib, forays into Makiling, Botanical Gardens, MudSprings, kain sa Jollibee or hot choco sa McDo, friendships, being prayed for, praying for someone, overnights, star-gazing, QT 2gether, BSW, bonding sa Freedom Park, large group fellowships, nametags on my wall, DPM sa DL steps, Lambat practices..... I could go on and on and on.... take me back to elbi please... :) *sigh*

2. Looking at the moon and the stars. "All things bright and beautiful..." Thinking of my fullmoon-mates, praying for them and knowing we're all in awe of God and loving his creation and praising Him for it.

3. Reading comic strips especially if they're Calvin&Hobbes, Baby Blues, Peanuts, Ben, and Asterix. :) Thank you Manong Andre for C&H and Manong Tons for Asterix. Mwah!

4. Visiting any book store or shop. Visit lng, browsing, reading, or just looking. Books, the sight of them in rows and the smell of them... hmmmwow. Itsura pa lang nakakabusog na. I can spend hours and hours and hours with books. :)

5. Sleep. Blessed sleep for more than 4 hours.

6. News na walang pasok/walang duty/walang exam. Hehe.

7. Birthdays! Even when they're not mine and even without the cake. I just love birthdays and celebrating the lives of my friends. Happy guid ang birthdays. Idagdag na rin natin dito ang Anniversaries. Month-saries I don't really care for. Haha. Can't relate kase.

8. Christmas Lights. Fireworks.

9. Stuffed toys.. especially si Tigger. Basta stuffed toy. Yinayakap ko talaga sila sa SM. Hehe.

10. Dressing up for a reason or for no reason.

11. Pamilya. Youngest, with two big brothers. Nanay and Tatay. Good genes, pare, good genes. Hehe. Thank you Lord for placing me here in this family. Pagbisita, text messages, tawag, notes, family pictures, family outings, window-shopping together, pagkain ng luto ni Nanay at ni Manong, alaskahin si Tatay, manood ng DVD together, playing "akin-akin", playing Cluedo and Dutch Blitz, taguan sa dilim, habulan on all fours, Tents, Cowboys and Indians, swimming sa beach, clan and family reunions... need I go on?

12. Listening to good Tagalog and English spoken by a good voice.

13. Good Music. Soothes the soul.

14. *tighthugs*

15. Getting my picture taken or taking pictures.

16. Being with old people, mga lolo and lola talaga. :)

17. Watching movies.

18. Contemplating nature. :) Cloud patterns, cool breezes, rain puddles, crunchy leaves, silver beaches, soft sand, any body of water, sunsets, sunrises, starfishes, dolphins, elephants, koala bears, beetles, bears, coconut trees.....

19. CATS! :) big, small, wild, and house pets. meeeeow!

20. Running cows and carabaos! Kailangan running! :) *clap, clap*

21. Staying in bahay kubos.

22. Peace and quiet on Sundays. Going to church at Caloocan Bible Church. Engagements! Friends since kindergarten. :)

23. Earrings.

24. Friends. Surprises. Pasalubong. Snail mail, visits. Little notes. Sundo sa airport hatid sa bahay. Sundo sa bahay hatid sa airport. Tambay. Chikka. Crying moments. Praying together.

Happy, happy Me!

yesterday

We were clobbered on the field by CAF from Lambunao campus in softball. And then we were run-over by PESCAR. Kahuluya guid! Owel, at least we reached that far in softball. And i can't believe i was part of that. Hehe. Tint who loves only sports attire! Haha. Yey.

***

Had dinner at KFC with my classmates. Exchanged 'Ei, Heath Ledger is dead' and 'Did you know Brad Renfro is also dead?' news. Gabfest on movies and good actors and The Godfather Trilogy. :) Waaaaah... ang ingay namin sa KFC.

***

Sale ngayon sa SM kase Dinagyang celebration sa Sabado. Didn't pass by BookSale dahil baka ma-hold-up nanaman ako dun. Flee from temptation, ika nga.

***

Went home and watched 'The Holiday'. Gwapo ni Jude Law!

7. Favorite PE?
:: Aerobic Dancing, can you imagine?! It was so much fun!

I'd take up Dentistry sa UP Manila.

18. Sino ang pinaka-una mong nakilala sa UP?

mag-aaral na ko...

Oh, the sheer embarrassment of it all! *tint melting into pool of embarrassed gook*

Kanina, we had our tutorial. We have this every 8-10am, MWF. There are 9 of us in a group (ung ibang groups 10 sila) plus one Doctor who serves as our tutor and giver of the grades. (Hehe, i like that term.) Anyway, kanina nga, may tutorial kami. The trigger was "a 4 year old boy brought to the ER with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck". Sounds easy, noh? Well, it is... that is if you know everything about lymph nodes and what they do and where they are and... and basta lahat about them! Which we didn't!

We all but swoon everytime he talks. To borrow Zard's word: *kilig*. Hehe. Lahat ng girls sa group namin e crush sya.... and we displayed our ignorance for all the world to see! Waaaaaahhh!!!! I wouldn't have minded the world so much if Doc wasn't part of it. But he was! Oh, he was! I could have died then and there of embarrassment because of my ignorance. *mortifying* Di kami makapagsalita dahil wala kaming masabi!!! Nakakahiya talaga. When he was giving us the history he kept on saying, "This boy has an exciting history. Are you as excited as I am?" *blush* hehe. Nakakahiya na wala akong alam.... Mag-aaral na ko... See you doc sa Wednesday... =) lol.

countdown

"Ilang months na lang, andito na rin kayo sa hospital..."

These words wake me up in the middle of the night... and I sweat and cringe. And it makes me reach for my books. *sigh*

79 days to go...

duty night

Yesternight was duty night at the WVSU-Medical Center. I and my classmates arrived a few minutes after 7pm and we were greeted with this by a JI: "Hi third years! Rounds tayo dito sa Ward! Then, kinanglan ko sang 3 volunteers para sa MICU. Decide na kamo kung sin-o." May gulay. Grrr... buti na lng tlga, he dropped the issue.

Ang sabi nya, "Listen to me, third years. The nurses have been telling me that you are being rambunctious (at ito ang aming word of the week!) and you are waking the patients. I don't know what you're doing here. Did you bring your stets? (Yes, naman kaming nagdala.) Who among you brought your stets? (Taas naman kami ng kamay.) Who among you brought your BP apps? (Taas ulit kami ng kamay.) What about the others? Did you bring your books? Do you have an exam tomorrow? (Doc, sabado po bukas, walang klase, pero sa Monday may exam po kami, sagot namin.) What I want you to do is go to get a partner. Ilan ba kayo? You will be assigned a patient. I want you to get a complete history and complete PE. Give me five differentials and your plans for the patient. You have until 11pm to do that. I will discuss the cases with you later."

Hay. Tadhana nga naman. Deja vu. Hehe. "So what did we do last time?", sabi ni Doc.

Kami ang laging natataon sa kanyang ka-toxican. Yung mga groups before and after us, natutulog lang sila sa wards.

At tulog ako buong araw.

book crazy

The other day, I went to SM and made a bee line for BookSale. I entered the store at 5pm and I left it at about 7pm smiling, dusty, and 450pesos poorer. Oh, Happy, happy, happy day!

I started out by browsing what children's books they had. Oooh, I just looove books for kids! I have Pippi Longstocking, Paddington Bear and A.A. Milne's Pooh! Yey, pero that day, I didn't find anything I liked so I went on to the hardbound books. I got White Oleander for only 70pesos, in mint condition. yey! Then I found another hardcopy of a book I liked. I went on to the coffeetable books section and spent a lot of time looking for possible gifts for anybody. Got one though for manong jaja. It's 'The Little Book of Monet'. Nice. Then I moved on again, and scoured the rest of the bookshelves. I finally found 'The Heart of Henri Nouwen' near the door. Whooohooo! That book naman is going to my parents. =) Kay saya talga umikot sa booksale.

After that, di pa nakontento, I went to National Bookstore and browsed for another hour. =) Waaah... I wanted to get something of Neil Gaiman's kase wala pa ako kahit isang book nya but I knew it would be disastrous to my budget at this time. Maybe next month, for my birthday... Or I hope somebody gives me a Neil Gaiman book.... *wink, wink*

Pag-uwi ko sa bahay, i made an inventory of the books I already have... And i'm missing two of the Narnia Chronicles (sino kaya humiram na di nagsauli??? huhuhu.....), Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club (now where did that go to?), and Out of the Silent Planet also by CS Lewis (waaaaaaah!!! asan na yun?!?!?).... I hope they're just here somewhere... I also separated those I'm giving to friends... Oh and I finished White Oleander and The Bridges of Madison County nga din pala yesterday. =) Happy, happy, happy.

Yes, I'm still reading my med books. Don't worry. ^___^!

iloilo + hapibday

And I'm back in Iloilo. Kami nila Rea, Xarra, Jaja, Rosejanne and the Magans were on Superferry 2. Ako boarded from Davao, they boarded at GenSan na. My classmates and I arrived today at about 1pm. When I got home I realized that I forgot to claim my set of surgical instruments that were "confiscated" at the port of Davao. Nyeks memory gap kase. So balik nanaman ako sa port ng Iloilo para i-claim ung aking scissors and needle holders and forceps. Pauwi, I went by Gaisano to do get groceries and then balik na sa bahay to clean up and clean the room. Ang alikabok! Phew.

I had dinner at the Balay Bisaya (haha, may pangalan na ung house nila) kase nagdala si Jaige ng food dahil birthday nya. Yey! (Oops sorry for this really old pic, taken during the first year pa 'to), anyway,Happy Birthday Jaige!

=D wheee! Sarap ng chicken and potato&chicken salad and ung chocolate cake na dala ni JP. Yumyum! And after that we tried watching some episodes ng Coffee Prince pero di na namin kinaya at umuwi na lng kami.

Oh no! Back to the grinding machine. Back to endless pages to read. Back to medschool, back to zombie life. Enjoy naman ako, not really complaining. :) Ahay. Hmmm... plus I think I'll get to lose the weight I put on during the break! Hehe. Happy 2008 everyone.

To the last months of third year.....! *clink*

looking back on the 'Firsts'

I guess it's good to take stock of what happened in 2007 before I plunge into 2008. So on this first day of the year, let me remember some of my "firsts" last year and the lessons I learned from them.

1. Dance on Stage in School
> oh this was great. =D had lotsa fun doing Hairspray moves complete with costumes!
> I learned that I can stand a greater measure of embarrassment now than before. haha! It's nice to dance even when there are people watching. Thank you Lord for the gift of music and dance. To you be all glory.

2. Visit Boracay
> precious bonding time with medfriends. ^__^!
> Thank you Lord for the reflection of your glory in nature. All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small. All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all. =D The Maker of Heaven and Earth made the world beautiful. Go to Boracay and you'll see it all. Sadly, you'll also see how we humans have destroyed the beauty God has made.

3. Observed in Surgeries
> really educational and simply amazing!
> I can't help but wonder at the greatness of He who created our bodies. Thank you Lord for creating us. And I also can't help but be grieved at the effect of sin in the world. It breaks the heart.

4. Volunteered for Organized Sports
> Softball. Table Tennis. Volleyball. I even surprised myself. hehe. And I also embarrassed myself that time I tripped and fell sa field. Kahuluya. Sige lang, basta enjoy.
> I enjoy playing but I'd still rather be in the audience than get all muddy, hot and sweaty on the field or court. =D Thank you Lord for the strength in our bodies and the ability to walk and run.

5. Made Apan-apan
> Haha. This was a nice experience. I can do pasta, fry, and bake. But it was my first time to volunteer to cook for us ivhomers. It's just adobong kangkong but it was satisfying to be able to eat what you want, made with your own hands.
> God bless the cooks! I still have a long way to go til I become a not-half-bad one. =) Thank you Lord for food to eat everyday. Thank you for your provision.

6. Tasted Cerveza Negra, Vodka Ice and J&B something
> With classmates. First time. For real. Just so I'd know how they taste. Just a sip. Didn't like it.
> I'd take water or soda anytime. Thank you Lord for water to drink!

At yun lang ang maalala ko na. Thank you Lord for new experiences, for learnings, for opportunities for growth. May you continue to be with me this year. And may I continue to bring you glory. Thank you Lord for my life. I love you.
