memoirs of a geisha, venting spleen, and nadia

Book: Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

Yan ang cover ng book na nabili ko sa BookSale for P132.00. *bigsmile*

I also got a copy of Tolkien's "The Hobbit" for 98php. *evenbiggersmile* Yey! complete ko na ang set ng Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit. My very own set, and not my dad's. Yey!

I just love BookSale! *big,bigsmile*

I read Memoirs of a Geisha in between OPD Surgery and ER duty. At last, natapos din. I must say that i like it better than the movie. (I think i always like all book versions than the movie versions anyway.) But the movie was good din naman, it's just that the book gave a broader and richer view of the story than the movie probably because reading a book is more intimate than watching a movie, if you know what i mean. I'm really glad i found it sa booksale.

Today is Saturday and i'm on On Call status so i get the half day off. Tomorrow i go on 24hours duty again. Haaay.... Sunday duty.... haaay...

Last time i went on duty, may mga ilang agaw iksena sa ER who made it hard to be a kind and gentle and understanding doctor. Grrrr...

We had a VA (vehicular accident) patient who had a little too much to drink and who was brought in by her friends (who i must say did not stick around long enough for me to get a history from, and which says a lot about what kind of friends they are... i'm still pissed off). We gave first aid treatment: got her vital signs, which were normal, packed her head wound (she had a punctured wound at the occipital area about the size of a jumbo mongol pencil) and inserted an IV line. we then gave requests for a CBC, urinalysis, skull, cervical, chest and pelvis xrays, a CT scan and an abdominal ultrasound. After namin magawa ang lahat ng ito, wala na kaming ibang pwedeng gawin kundi maghintay until the folks can comply with the labs and diagnostics. I was finishing up writing what little history i got from the patient as she was drunk and could not tell me what happened tlga and i've already done my pe. Stable na ung patient namin. After namin umupo and, as the books would say, started our "watchful waiting", here comes this uncle of the patient who says, "Wag naman kayo umupo-umupo lang jan. Atupagin nyo naman tong pasyente ko. Wala naman kayong ginagawa jan e." Pambihira! That was enough to make my PGI bristle and answer back. Buti na lng nauna ung mga PGI sumagot dahil hindi nako kelangan magsalita pa. Hehe. Pambihira tlga. I wanted to strangle the man! Wala na nman tlgang dapat gawin dun sa patient. If she suddenly seized or vomited blood or screamed in pain then we would be at her bedside before you could say Jack Robinson. Anong gusto nya, paliguan namin pasyente nya?

Please lng, wag mang-toxic. Most often, ang folks ang mas toxic kesa sa mga pasyente (pero sa case na to toxic sila pareho kase makulit din ung pasyente kase nga lasing sya.) We will not leave your patients until they're stable and even then we're not "leaving them alone". Kahit nakaupo kami doesn't mean that we're not doing anything. It was most unfair of that man to claim na hindi namin inatupag ang pasyente nya. Unfair and cruel. Late lng sya dumating. Panget sya. Kainis. Pinalabas namin sya sa ER.

After some time, madami pang bumisita na folks sa patient na yon. At about 1am, she had a visitor who stood by her bedside awhile and then without warning, fell to the floor as if he'd been pole-axed. I saw him fall, then *bang* and there was blood coming out of the back of his head. Pambihirang patis. So we all rushed to the guy, got him on a stretcher, and to my surprise, 40 lng ang cardiac rate nya! Goodluck naman! The normal cardiac rate is 60-100/min and the guy only makes 40 to a minute! So takbo nanaman kami to insert a line. Nung mejo nagka-malay na ung lalaking yon, sya pa may ganang magsabi na, "OK lng ako, pwede tanggalin na tong linya? pwede nako umuwi? Uuwi nako. ok nanaman ako ngayon e" and some other stupid thing about him being fine. Yeah right. Fine. He didn't want to comply with the HGT and xray kase ok nga lng daw sya. Whatever. He kept on and on and on about him being fine until daybreak. He kept calling me (kase ako na lng ang gising), "Nurse, nurse/Miss, miss, magkano ba lahat tong riniseta mo saken? Bakit may pula dito sa tubo ko? Ok lng ba to? pwedeng patanggal na tong linya ko? Kelangan pa ba talagang palitan to (pertaining to the macroset, plain LR and vasocan as we were using hospital supplies and they had to be replaced by the patient)? Pwede bang wag n lng? Pwede na ba ko umuwi?" Nakakainis sya. Agaw iksena masyado. Toxic na pasyente na hindi nman sana toxic. In the end, he went home against medical advice. Bahala sya sa buhay nya.

Haaay....

Yun lng naman kwento ko....

Oh nga pala.... my inaanak, Nadia, is now in Nursery. how wonderful is that? She's going to be great in school, i can tell. Mana sa ninang. bwahahahaha!
