Duty at the Medical Ward was umm... educational. It's true, what they say na you should always grab any opportunity for learning or create the opportunities to learn. Kase andami kong natutunan that night sa ward.
1. I must never forget to bring my stet and bp app, thermometer and penlight anywhere especially sa hospital.
2. The adage 'curiosity killed the cat' does not apply to medical students. We should be curious as hell so we can learn.
3. A smile can go a long way to getting a complete history and pe and diagnosis.
4. We should befriend the orderlies and the nurses to make our intership easier.
5. I'll never forget what a decerebrate person looks like.
6. Filipinos are ingenious! Lalong lalo na sa mga wards ng public hospitals. We do things and make do with things unthought of in Western hospitals. =) One up for the Pinoys!
7. A good penmanship and a good command of the English language are essential to pleasing your Resident. Haha! Ayaw mo mapagalitan? Practice writing and speaking in English.
8. Paperworks and cranky Residents are the bane in the life of the Junior Intern.
9. We are medical students... we're supposed to make mistakes and be corrected. There's still a lot to learn.
10. Bring off lotion to the hospital. You don't want to get dengue from your patients. Hehe.
That and more. =)
I do enjoy being a doctor. Andaming kwento ng mga tao. It's like doing campus work. Haha. And it's always nice to know that even though you didn't do anything aside from listen, it's enough. The simple 'thank you doc kay namangkot kamo (thank you doc for asking) is priceless. It's better than Omega 3 for the heart.
